R: What was wrong with your serve today? It seemed to be the biggest problem.
H: I should say the serve is never my biggest weapon. The first set was very close and of high quality. In the second set, she played with more intensity. She was better.
R: Please comment on Peng’s performance.
H: We played once before and I felt hard to beat her. She is in her home country and the support made her play better.
R: What did your mother say at the end of the first set?
H: It was crucial when it was 6-5 in the first set and she came to me and we talked about the opportunity to break her. But Peng kept doing and I got broken.
R: You had many supports from the fans today. Did you expect it before the match?
H: Yes. I noticed it in the first match yesterday. I feel great to see many fans here. I’m grateful of that. We had great atmosphere in the main session.
R: You said in yesterday’s press conference that you would rather receive than serve.
H: Yeah. At least I didn’t get broken in the first set when it was 5:5. It did work. I will keep doing that. I tried to put pressure on her. She did great and made less unforced errors.
R: Davenport just came back to the tennis court after giving birth to her son. And she has won the title in Bali. Please comment on that.
H: I said to her: “You are amazing!” It’s great that she’s come back and won the tournament. She was once No. 1 in the world. Now she has her son and it will be a great combination in her life. This rarely happens in the sports field.
R: In your first press conference you said you wanted to visit three places of interest in Beijing. Now you have plenty of time. Will you go and visit them?
H: Yes, I do have plenty of time now. I’m planning tomorrow to the Great Wall. It’s the priority choice because it’s not easy to get there. I think after I come home, I can say to my friends that I’ve seen the Great Wall of China.
R: Did you enjoy your party last night? Do you plan to come back to Beijing for China Open and the Olympic Games?
H: The party was great last night. We had nice dresses. They were from the famous shop which had long history from 1893. Not all the people can get dressed like that. It’s the lucky dress for me. I can tell my friends “This is from Beijing.” As for next year, I’m not sure if I can come here. I’m sure the Olympic Games will be a great event.
R: You played against Peng in the US Open. Do you see any improvements from her performance today?
H: She is more consistent today. Her serve was pretty good especially when it was 30:30. She could ace me with big hit.
