17/9 Mauresmo Before Match Press Conference

　　R: You just come back from a couple of months’ injury. You didn’t choose to play the tournaments in Europe instead you took a long trip to Beijing. Please tell us why.

　　M: I like it here. I just want to reach my good level and get back to practice. This is the place I choose to start again.

　　R: Do you feel any difference between this year’s tournament in Beijing and last year?

　　M: Not for the moment because I haven’t started my first match yet. Maybe when I go to the court and hear the crowd, I will feel the difference. I hope I can find the way to get back to my best level.

　　R: You said you left tennis for months. Was that true that you didn’t play at all and just enjoyed your life?

　　M: For 5-6months I didn’t touch rackets. But I still did some physical practice for fun. I had much quality time with my family and friends. I’ve played in the tournaments for 10 years and I think I need time to have a break. After a while I felt I missed tennis and then I decided to take my racket and get back.

　　R: We know that you love tarot cards very much. Do you play them often?

　　M: Not much. I just enjoy different things in my life like driving motorcycle and drinking French wine.

　　R: Last year when you were here you were No.1 in the world, but now you are out of Top 10. Do you feel amazed? Do you still have confidence to come back?

　　M: It’s really difficult for me to recover from my surgery in March. My doctor said the injury would definitely affect my physical energy. That’s why I decide to come back here and prepare to get back. 2007 is almost behind. I will definitely play 4-5 tournaments and get ready to reach into Top 10 again next year. My goal for next year will also include Grand Slam and Olympic Games.

　　R: Davenport just gave birth to a baby and after a while she won the title in Paris. What do you think of those mother-players going back to court?

　　M: It’s surprising and impressive to see her return. I think she will enjoy the life she has now. She is the 2nd or 3rd one to be a mother-player. I think she’s able to reach her highest level.

　　R: Justin Henin won 2 Grand Slams this year. Do you think there is a gap between Henin and other female players? If there is, how deep is it?

　　M: She’s the No.1 player in the world. Yes. There is a gap between other players and her. But I don’t know how deep it is. Sometimes you can feel the huge gap but in fact it reflects in many small things.
